The fifth and final play in the Great War cycle.
Mattäus Erzberger was a member of the German Reichstag who was given the task of negotiating the Armistice terms with the Allies. As he sets off for the long and dangerous drive to the front line, confident that he will be negotiating terms along the lines of President Wilson’s Fourteen Points, he talks with his driver and learns something of what the war means for an ordinary German solder. But as his long journey ends, his – and his country’s – problems are just beginning.
